Hi, I'm Liz.
About MyUKPayslip
I work in the NHS as an anaesthetic practitioner. I did not train in finance, marketing, or web design. I built this site because I kept running into the same problem myself: needing a straight answer about money, fast, and not finding one that didn't come wrapped in jargon, a sales pitch, or an assumption that I already understood half the terms being used.
Why this site exists
Working in the NHS means dealing with payslips, pension schemes, and pay bands that are genuinely confusing even to people who work with numbers all day. Add in the ordinary UK cost of living questions, whether you can afford to move out, what your real take-home pay is after tax, whether your rent is reasonable, and it's a lot to work out on your own.
There's also the training side of things. Student loan repayments, the cost of getting through training itself, and daily outgoings all pulling at the same limited income, while somehow also trying to build a savings pot for retirement. That balancing act is exactly what pushed me to start building calculators that actually reflect what training and working in the NHS looks like financially, not generic advice aimed at a different kind of career.
I started building calculators and guides for myself first. Then I realised other people were almost certainly stuck on the exact same questions, searching late at night, slightly panicked, trying to work out a number before making a decision they couldn't take back.
That's who this site is for. Not people casually browsing finance content. People who need an actual answer to an actual question, right now.
What's different here
I am not a financial advisor, and I don't pretend to be one. Every calculator on this site is built around HMRC's published rates and genuinely useful UK-specific logic, not generic advice copied from somewhere else. Where I link to a financial product or provider, it's because it fits a page's specific topic, not because it pays the most.
How this site is built
I'm not a developer. I've learned HTML, DNS, and web hosting from scratch while building this, largely by working through problems one at a time rather than knowing the answers upfront. If something on this site looks slightly rough around the edges occasionally, that's why. I'd rather be transparent about that than pretend otherwise.
