What we do
MyUKPayslip is a free UK personal finance toolkit, built around real take-home pay, real rent, and real budgets. Every calculator uses current 2025/26 UK tax rates and follows official thresholds (HMRC, ONS, PLSA, Student Finance England) so the numbers match what actually lands in your bank account.
The site covers the full life cycle of UK money: students working out if a maintenance loan covers their flat, graduates understanding why their take home is smaller than they expected, professionals negotiating pay rises and dodging the £100k tax trap, renters deciding whether they can afford to move out, buyers running mortgage scenarios, and everyone trying to retire one day with enough to live on.
Why we built this
Most UK financial advice sites do one of two things. Either they oversimplify ("just save 20 percent of your salary!" without explaining why that's impossible on £25,000 in London), or they bury you in jargon designed to push you toward expensive products. We wanted something different.
The principle is simple: show people the actual maths, in plain language, with honest verdicts. If a calculator says you can't afford a £1,200 flat on your salary, the wording matches reality. If your maintenance loan only covers 8 weeks of a 12 week term, you see exactly when the money runs out and what to do about it. No motivational fluff, no patronising language, no fake urgency.
Our editorial approach
Every calculator follows the same standards. Numbers are checked against official UK sources, including HMRC tax thresholds, ONS earnings data, Student Finance England maintenance loan tables, and the PLSA Retirement Living Standards. Tax rules and rates are updated each tax year, with 2025/26 rates currently in use throughout the site.
Where we recommend products or services through affiliate links, the recommendations come first, the link comes second. We only suggest providers we'd genuinely use ourselves: whole of market mortgage brokers, FCA regulated savings providers, established accounting software. Affiliate revenue helps keep the calculators free, but it never determines what we recommend.
What we are not
MyUKPayslip is not regulated financial advice. We are an information and tools site. The calculators help you understand your own numbers, run scenarios, and make better decisions, but they can't replace personalised advice for complex situations like inheritance tax planning, complicated business structures, or transferring out of a final salary pension.
For regulated advice in those areas, you need a qualified adviser. Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) and StepChange (stepchange.org) provide free help for general money problems and debt. The Money and Pensions Service offers free pension guidance through MoneyHelper.
